LED Handrail Power Supply
The power supply, known as an LED Driver has to have the right power capacity, the right credentials and be reliable.
Combined with the proven reliability of our lighting projectors every installation will be “fit and forget”.
So, there are two ways to wire our LED Projectors in the circuit.
Series / Constant Current
Parallel & Series – Parallel / Constant Voltage

Series Circuit / Constant Current Drivers
Use for:
Small-medium installations.
Up to 10 Projectors in Wet conditions, 15 in Dry
Wooden Handrails
Advantages:
Easier Installation – Fewer components, less work
Easier to install into wood
Smaller diameter wire required
Easy Dimming – Simply choose the LED Driver compatible with your dimming system
Connection:
Simply connect each Projector positive to negative ensuring that at the beginning and end you have a red and black wire in order to make the correct final connection, positive (RED) and Negative (BLACK) to the driver.
CAUTION: LED Handrail Power Supply- Constant Current Drivers
- Always check minimum voltage before connecting the driver to the circuit or individual projectors. Each projector operates at 2.85 volts
- Ensure the maximum circuit voltage is according to your Country’s SELV regulation
- Series circuits are not the best option for Emergency operation – please contact us for more information and see below.

Easy to install

Parallel Circuit / Constant Voltage Drivers
Use for:
Small – Large installations.
Metal and Wooden Handrails
Large quantities of projectors / large installations
Parallel and Series/ Parallel circuits
Advantages:
One lamp failure does not cause all lamps to fail.
SELV compliant (Safety Extra Low Voltage) with maximum voltage limited to 24v D.C.
(up to 48volts permissible in dry areas such as Tunnels – please contact us to discuss)
All of our Projectors require a d.c. supply of only 2.85v (350ma operation), so to make them compatible with the 24v driver we add a device known as a Dc-Dc converter. These devices convert 24v into a lower voltage range of 2 – 21volt d.c., enabling 1 – 6 projectors to be attached.
Connection Series / Parallel
Connect Dc-Dc converters to the 24v wires using Run and Tape Wire Splices in order to create a parallel connection. Then connect the Projectors in series (positive to negative) in quantities of 1-6. Generally, this is the circuit of choice, offering:
Less component cost
Easier installation
At 6 projectors the Dc-Dc converter is operating at its maximum efficiency
So, in the rare event of a lamp failure only the lighting in one circuit will be lost (maximum 6 lights)
As a result of our high-performance products, most installations feature our projectors spaced at 800 – 1500mm fixing centres. Generally, our Installation Partners use 1 x Dc-Dc converter per handrail section. This means it can be pre-wired and tested at their works with the only electrical work on-site being to connect the 24volt supply cables (+ dimming connection if required).
SERIES / PARALLEL CIRCUIT
The most common circuit used for 24v projector installations
Connection Parallel
Connect individual Dc-Dc converters / Projectors combined to the 24v supply.
Use this type of circuit for:
Critical lighting installations, for example, Emergency lighting.
So that, in the rare event of a failure only one lamp will be extinguished.
CAUTION: LED Handrail Power Supply- Constant Voltage Drivers
- Correctly terminate 24v supply cables.
- As a result of the low start-up voltage of the Dc-Dc converter, the driver must be rated at twice the operating power (OSRAM products)
- Most important, we do not recommend drivers that auto-sense Constant Voltage / Current
PARALLEL CIRCUIT
Use for critical lighting installations
Twin Circuit Handrail.
Combining both the Series / Parallel and Parallel circuits provides a normal lighting circuit with dedicated Emergency lighting from a dedicated, separate driver. Emergency lighting regulations call for illuminance at a much lower intensity so spacing can be increased. As a result, this circuit has every fourth Projector connected to a dedicated Emergency driver / central or autonomous battery backup.
The lights can be:
“Maintained” illuminate along with the other lighting or
“Non – Maintained” only illuminate in the event of an Emergency
